Another Soccer Win!

Hello & Happy Monday!

Cat and I had our 2nd soccer game yesterday and we WON, again!  The score was 3-2.  Unfortunately, the 2nd point they made was a direct result of me :(  I didn’t pick up the ball, but I sure wanted to!  I was in the goal (our goalie was out of it for some reason …) and I actually knelt down to pick the darn thing up as it rolled towards me!  I managed to wake myself up before I actually grabbed it, but holy mackerel what was I thinking!  I could hear Caitlyn screaming from the sidelines “NOOOOoooo Don’t Pick It Up Mooommmaaa” like it was slow motion.  She didn’t actually scream it, but I swore I heard it :)  Our “coach” is quite “direct” and I am pretty sure she would have kicked my a## if I had picked it up so I think I didn’t do it more out of fear than actual skill.  She scares me and has no time for “girls”.  I got my first foul … I tripped a girl.  I hate to say that I did it on purpose, but I did.  I am surprised at my aggressiveness on the field/court :)  She got me back later though … my knees are now bruised from falling on the gym floor.  I pretty much ache from the knees down.  It’s a good thing I sit in a chair for a living and I have five days to recoup before painting the dining room :)

Dan didn’t come to the game this time … he stayed home and pulled wallpaper off of our bathroom wall.  We have a pretty big bathroom and its completely covered in hunter green wallpaper.  He got a lot down and he even took the wallpaper down in the dining room (next weekends project).  The wallpaper in the dining room came down in full sheets … he was feeling pretty good about that so he started on our bathroom.  Let’s just say that the bathroom did not come down in full sheets.  More like little triangles … lots of little triangles.  He got a lot done and I am so thankful that he did it :)  One of the best parts of painting the house is that we’re spring cleaning each room as we go through it.  Its working out quite well.  The weekend of the 6th we are scheduled to paint the entry of our house … I happened to notice that those walls are about 30 feet tall!!!  We have a ladder that Dan says will reach that high, but there is NO WAY I am climbing 30ft AND painting with a roller and brush.  We’ll have to see how that one goes …. Yowsa!  It reminds me of when Dan was putting Christmas lights on the house the first year we were there… he tied a rope to the front of the suburban and strung it across the top of the house so he would have something to hold onto as he climbed on the A frame … our entire neighborhood ended up watching him and hoping he didn’t fall.  After much pleading he finally got down and we agreed that we didn’t really need the lights on that part of the house.  Unfortunately, we are going to have to paint these inside walls and I don’t think they make extenders that long :)  That weekend project should make for a very interesting note :)

Have a great week!

LIVING ROOM MAKEOVER

Hello!  We hope everyone is having a great weekend!  The weather is beautiful here today ... it made being inside painting a little more "painful" :)  I think it was 50 degrees but sunny!!  No jacket required :)

This weekends project was the Living Room.  We spend most of our time in this room so it was nice to get the walls repainted.  I didnt realize how badly they needed to be painted.  Since we're using semi-gloss it will be fantastic to have walls we can clean when we spill red wine on the wall!!  We were originally going to do the dining room this weekend, but we have a new couch being delivered on Wednesday for the living room so we figured we better get it done before its delivered.  Here are pics of the new loveseat/recliner.  Dan picked them out and they are REALLY comfortable!

So, we'll update our "makeover" once the room is complete ... right now it looks pretty empty since there is no couch/chair.  We moved the couch that was in here up to Cats room.  Yes, her room is big enough for an entire sitting room ... doesn't seem quite right for a 16yr old does it!!!  We painted the walls with a color called "melted butter" so its yellow, but not too bright.  We are really pleased with how it turned out.

Speaking of melted butter ... Dan just fixed crab cakes for dinner!!!  Yeahhhhh!!!  He makes fantastic crab cakes and I am VERY hungry :)  Cat is staying with her friend Dana tonight and I am sure having a great time.  She lives on Atlantic Ave. so she is right on the beach.  She goes to Cat's school in the Legal Studies Academy.  She is a really sweet girl!  I had the opportunity to meet her Dad, John, today and he was equally as pleasant and nice.

So, next weekends project is the dining room that connects to the living room.  There is wallpaper so we have to remove that, but we're excited to get it done, as well.

Have a great rest of the weekend!

Kitchen and Eating Area Makeover

We finished the kitchen and eating area this evening!  The three of us are REALLY happy with how it turned out.  We used two tones of tan and have two accent walls.  Next weekend is the living room ... much smaller room and NO wallpaper :)  Here are photos of the finished product in the kitchen/eating area.

House of Boe & Soccer Update :)

I thought that I should clarify that this update is usually (always ...) written by me, Heidi, and posted on our family website www.houseofboe.com ... it feeds directly onto Dan and I's Facebook pages.  So, when I posted "kooky" website updates just know that they are from me, Heidi :)

Caitlyn had her last Kaos indoor soccer game this am.  They TIED 2-2!!  They have lost every game except one in the tournament so it was a great way to end the season and we're all glad that its over!

The Sunshine Girls (thats Cat and I) had our game at 12noon.  I was not looking forward to going, at all.  I didnt wear the yellow shorts and I am REALLY glad that I didnt :)  Cat and I were already a little "over dressed" compared to the other players.  I introduced myself to them and said "hello ... my name is Heidi and I am your teams weakest link :)"  They were not very excited when they learned I had never played ... the coach asked me if I played basketball ... I felt so bad that I said "yes"!!!  I have played more soccer than basketball!!  I just couldnt bare to dissappoint her anymore than she already was.  I will say that she felt better when I told her I had played basketball so I will just hope that she doesnt recommend a game of horse :)

I played about 25 minutes of the game and I had a GREAT time!!  The other players were very encouraging and I didnt grab the ball, once.  Well, I did try to grab it, but it was too far away :)  So, no handballs AND our team won 5-1!!  Cat and I had a great time together and I am looking forward to playing next week.  My upset stomach is now gone :)  I will not ever wear the yellow socks, shorts and shirt together, though :)

When we got home from the game we started on the kitchen and we got quite a bit done.  Here are some before pictures:

Ohh yeah ... that is Caitlyn in her Sunshine yellow jersey :)  That is all of the wallpaper we had to remove ... yuck!!!  It was not fun.  We painted the trim and got most of the walls painted.  We will be able to finish tomorrow.  We really like the colors we chose.

Here is a cute pic of Caitlyn to end my family update.  The cutest dimples ever!!  We hope you have all had a great weekend!

First and Last Indoor Soccer Games ....Yellow Valentines Day?

Happy YELLOW Valentines Day!!

Valentines Day will be a busy day ... Caitlyn has her last indoor soccer game with Team Kaos tomorrow at 10:20am... this has been a tough 1st indoor season for them so we're ready for the pain to stop :)  At 12noon we (Caitlyn and I) have our first indoor game.  We should have had our first 2 weeks ago, but the snow has delayed that.  I must admit I am PRAYING for snow tonight!!!  I am very nervous to play in my first game and hope that I dont embarrass my daughter.  I am not sure that I could keep from doing that since I havent ever played, but we can all have hope.  Another reason I am pretty sure I will embarrass her is that our team colors are supposed to be Yellow.  So, being the prepared mother/player that I am ... I went to Amazon.com and got a yellow jersey, yellow shorts and yellow socks.  I put my "outfit" on for the first time this evening ... I look like SUNSHINE ON CRACK!!!  Yes, I am nothing but yellow and NO I am not posting a picture of it.  I am pretty sure that I am NOT going to be wearing this tomorrow ... Caitlyn has offered me her soccer pants to wear and white socks ... maybe to break up the yellow a little bit.  Walking on sunshine is one thing ... walking on BRIGHT Yellow, all yellow, sunshine is another story :)  Dan asked me if I was playing dress up for Valentines Day ... lets just say that we both knew that was a joke :)

On a different note ... we're painting the house ... the entire house.  We have scuffs on all of our walls and eventually (late this summer) need to re carpet the house so we decided it would be a better idea to repaint before we carpet :)  So, we planned a room a weekend.  This weekend is the Kitchen.  Hopefully, it will not be so overwhelming by doing a room a weekend.  On our schedule we'll be done by the end of May.  Just in time for summer to enjoy the weekends in the pool :)  Pool time seems a very long time away :)

So, tomorrow after Cat plays 2 soccer games and I play my first we will be knee deep in painting the kitchen.  I will probably post photos of that, but not the yellow sunshine soccer players ... well I'll probably post a pic of Cat in her yellow, but not me :)

Happy Valentines Day!
Heidi, Dan and Caitlyn

House of Boe "Goings On" ... Happy Valentines Day!!

We hope this note/update finds all of you doing wonderfully and enjoying the Valentine weekend! We have had a very busy week, but enjoyed a wonderful Friday evening. Caitlyn has been involved in the Model UN program for the 2nd year. Its quite a program and she enjoys it.  This year her country is Portugal.  This year her friend from school, Dana, joined her at the program and they've had a great time.  Here is a pic they took while on their lunch break.

They look like they could be sisters, don't they!  Since Dan and I both work in downtown Norfolk he took the girls to lunch today while I worked and then brought me lunch from Tropical Smoothie:)   The girls had a dance this evening with the rest of the attendees at the Norfolk Sheraton.  In the meantime, Dan and I went for a beautiful "early" Valentines dinner at a restaurant called Press 626 & Wine Bar in Ghent.  It was wonderful and beyond our expectations!  Our waiter, Scott Boom Boom, was great and the food was phenomenal!  We will definately go back.

Cat took her SAT for the first time in January as a Sophomore to get accustomed to the test and be prepared for her Junior year.  We just got her test results back and she got a 1510 without any studying or prep.  We are very proud of her!  She will be able to study more from this test for this summer and her Junior year.

Cat will get her license on April 5th.  Pretty amazing to think that she will be able to drive herself to school.  I am pretty sure that means Dan/I get to sleep in one more hour in the morning ... since we wont have to drive her to the school bus anymore!!! :)  yeahh!!!  I know ... I know ... "drive her to the bus ... she is 16 yrs old" ... the problem is that she has to be there by 6am (before its light out), 1 mile from the house, .5 mile from a convicted sex criminal AND next to a wooded area .... so we get up an hour early and drive her to the bus stop.  20yrs ago we didn't have so much information and kids got themselves to school ... walk/skate/bike ride or skip but as long as you left the house the parents were in the clear :)

Caitlyn will be at her Model UN program tomorrow and has a soccer game tomorrow evening.  On Sunday she has her indoor soccer game with her team "Kaos" at 10:20am and then she and I have an indoor game at 12noon.  This will be my first indoor game (let alone soccer game at all) so I will admit that I am very nervous.  I skipped out of our first 2 games due to snow ... I sure wish it would snow tomorrow night!!!!  Fortunately Dan and I have Monday off for Presidents Day ... so I will have time to heal my "soccer wounds" :)  Hopefully, I don't try to grab the ball with my hands like I did previously ... I just to have to remember "NO HANDS" ... hopefully I don't embarrass Caitlyn or Dan :)  We'll see ... I can't promise photos, but I will let you know how it goes :)

Happy Valentines Day!
Dan, Heidi and Cat :)
